When A Cappella meets the wonder among giant fruits and vegetables, what springtime surprises will be unlocked?

In the first outdoor concert of this year’s “Spring Blossoms” Music Festival, the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen joins hands with Shenzhen Universiade World to present an exclusive spring vocal feast. The ensemble debuts with an upgraded lineup, featuring an exciting array of diverse acts, including a dance-sing and an R&B section.

Performance Group

The A Cappella Group of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen

The A Cappella Group of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was officially established in 2022, initiated and guided by Miss Miette He, the head of the Art Groups of the University Arts Centre. Its members are students from the university who have a passion for unaccompanied vocal group singing. They interpret the unique charm of music through the human voice, and challenge the possibilities of music.

With the concept of openmind, innovation and inclusion, it has participated in nearly twenty performances in Shenzhen, Fuzhou, and other locations, interpreting a variety of a cappella pieces from both domestic and international repertoires. On campus, it also held the “Seasons of Love” A Cappella Concert and the “For Love · For Graduation” A Cappella Music Party. Songs performed included Stars, We Are Young, Misbehavin, and the MV Youth, The Light Chaser, and I Just Called to Say I Love You. These have brought the audience with the sincerest emotions and the most beautiful singing.

In addition, the A Cappella Group actively engages in social service activities, bringing warmth and care to more communities through the power of music. In November 2022, the A Cappella Group participated in the Sing Together, co-hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong, and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao. Through singing, they highlighted the charm of harmony and integration, promoting cultural development in the Greater Bay Area. In April 2023, they participated in a modern music concert organized by the Longgang District Cultural Center to benefit the public. In May 2023, they performed the piece Finding Myself during the Shenzhen Green University Graduation Season series. In December 2023, they participated in the first Pingshan Twelve Hours of Cultural Collection, promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture.

In October 2024, the A Cappella Group was invited to participate in the China Pingtan Island Chorus Festival, where they exchanged ideas and learned with A Cappella Groups from other universities. They performed the song Can’t Sleep Love and a newly rewritten song Black Sheep and showcased the purity and diversity of music.

The A Cappella Group will continue to improve and develop in the future, creating more works in diverse styles. It will maintain friendly cooperative relationships with vocal groups from various universities and professional groups, continuously attempting to break barriers and jointly promote the A Cappella art form, so that more people can understand the infinite possibilities contained in the human voice.

Advisor | Miette HE

Conductor and Head of the CUHK-Shenzhen Chorus, Instructor of the A Cappella Group, Head of the University Art Groups; Musical Instructor of BYAcapella; Music Consultant for the Lychee Chorus; Co-founder and Music Director of the CUBE Chorus; Guest Artist at the Convimus International Music Festival in Porto and Advisor for the CUHK-Shenzhen EMBA Phoenix Choir. She was under the guidance of Mdm. Jiang Nan, the Artistic Director of Golden Voice Chorus; currently working at the University Arts Centre, CUHK-Shenzhen. Since 2012, Miette has been dedicated to the choral arts, with a mission of “treasuring every passion, blending it into chords, and transforming it into moving voices of the heart.”

She focuses on introducing global culture and world music during chorus training, leading chorus members to explore music from various backgrounds and languages, such as German, Italian, French, English, Chinese (including Chinese dialects), Japanese, Latin, Spanish, and African languages. Emphasising cultural integration and promoting Chinese culture, she brings Chinese music to international stages. At the Convimus International Music Festival in Porto, she led the choir in performing dialect works such as Ajelu (Don’t Be Afraid), Chinese opera pieces like Guang Liang (Silver Lining), and Chinese ethnic songs such as The Mongolians, providing international chorus members and audiences with insights into Chinese music and culture.

She prioritises developing chorus members’ perceptiveness and creativity, encouraging them to collaboratively design stage performances. Notable works include All That’s Desired Shall Be Fulfilled. In March 2024, during the 10th Anniversary Alumni Day of CUHK-Shenzhen, she innovated the concept of “choral storytelling,” integrating play, stage design, multimedia visuals, and choral music. Through innovative design, the stage reimagines university memories, transforming fleeting moments of youth into tangible artistic landscapes.

She emphasises the diversity and power of music, using choral works of various styles and periods to enhance chorus members’ comprehensive abilities. Under her leadership, the CUHK-Shenzhen Chorus won the first prize in the Vocal Category (Group A) in the Guangdong Province the 7th Edition College Student Art Exhibition Activities. Additionally, she led the CUBE Chorus to win the top spot in the Silver Award category at the inaugural Hong Kong International Choral Festival. Miette has led the chorus to collaborate with numerous musicians and ensembles, including LIU Yan, Anson PING, Wu Bixia, and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and has been involved in the recomposition of collaboration pieces.

In 2024, she was invited to be the choral director for the “Echo of Light” concert for the game Punishing: Gray Raven, which gained over 500,000 views online. In 2025, she was invited to be the choral director for Atlas of Tomorrow, featured in Honor of Kings’ online anniversary gala; the performance hit one million views.

Soprano | XIE Xinhaiwen

XIE Xinhaiwen is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Accounting at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. She currently serves as the Head and Soprano of the University's A Cappella Group. She has successfully organised and performed in numerous A Cappella special concerts, commercial performances, and anniversary concerts, accumulating extensive experience in stage performance and team organisation.

Soprano | YAN Chuoying

YAN Chuoying is a first-year undergraduate student majoring in Artificial Intelligence at CUHK-Shenzhen. She grew up singing in choirs. In 2016, she traveled to Russia with the Liwan Children’s Choir and won the gold medal in the children’s category at the 9th World Choir Festival; Since 2017, she has performed and competed with the Guangzhou Children’s Choir in Japan, Slovakia, and other locations, winning the Gold Medal in the Contemporary Works category of the 2018 Slovak International Choir Festiva. She subsequently became the head of the high school choir at Guangzhou No. 2 Middle School. In 2025, she joined the A Cappella Group at CUHK-Shenzhen.

Alto | LIU Keying

LIU Keying is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Finance at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. She was awarded the Outstanding Contestant in the CUHK-Shenzhen Section of the 2022 Shenzhen University Students Singing Competition. She has been a member of the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen since 2023, and has participated in various events with the Group, including the 2024 China Pingtan Island Choral Festival, Anniversary Concerts of CUHK-Shenzhen, three annual A Cappella special concerts on and off campus, and the Spring Festival Gala.

AltoWANG Zijie

WANG Zijie is a second-year undergraduate student at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. Since joining the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen in October 2024, she has participated in the Sunset Concerts, performed in collaboration with the City Singers, the Spring Festival Gala of Diligentia College and the CCTV IP on Campus event.

AltoXU Yanhan

XU Yanhan is a first-year student at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. She joined the University's A Cappella Group in October 2025. Since joining, she has been gently forced to reach both her highest and lowest vocal ranges, and she is still not sure her voice could even go to those two places. She loves R&B and jazz - genres that legally allow an alto to sound both lazy and not to be messed with.

Tenor?DU Junlin

DU Junlin is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Global Business Management at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. He won third place in “The Voice” campus singing competition in 2025. Passionate about exploring musical boundaries, he has performed with the A Cappella Group at the 2024 China Pingtan Island Choral Festival, Anniversary Concerts of CUHK-Shenzhen, A Cappella Special Concerts, as well as the Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival Galas, accumulating extensive stage experience.

Tenor | XU Xintuo

XU Xintuo is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Electronic Engineering at the School of Science and Engineering, CUHK-Shenzhen. Since childhood, XU has learned the piano and has had a passion for vocal music. XU has participated in many performances both on and off campus and was awarded Outstanding Contestant in the CUHK-Shenzhen Section of the 2022 Shenzhen University Students Singing Competition and one of the Top Ten Singers in the finals of "The Voice" Campus Singer Competition in 2025. He is currently one of the tenors of the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen.

Tenor | LIU Donghao

LIU Donghao is a third-year undergraduate student majoring at the School of Artificial Intelligence, CUHK-Shenzhen. He has been extensively engaged in choral singing from the third grade of primary school to senior high school, with more than ten years of choral training and stage performance experience. During high school, he served as the Tenor Section Leader of Xiamen No.1 High School Chorus, winning the First Prize in Vocal (Chorus) Category of the 8th Primary and Secondary School Students' Art Exhibition in Fujian Province, and the Second Prize in 2023 Primary and Secondary School Chorus Competition in Xiamen. He joined the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen in September 2025, and has been active in daily rehearsals and various on and off campus performances, continuously exploring diverse singing styles and stage expressions of A Cappella.

Bass | WANG Gaofan

WANG Gaofan is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Quantitative Finance at the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen. Currently, he is a bass member of the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen, and serves as the Head of the Chorus of the CUHK-Shenzhen. At the university, he has participated in numerous large-scale activities both on and off campus, accumulating rich stage experience. In 2024, he was invited to participate in the China Pingtan Island Choral Festival where he performed A Cappella pieces with students from more than 20 universities across the country by the seaside in Pingtan.

BassWANG Yihan

WANG Yihan is a second-year undergraduate student at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is from Changsha, Hunan. In high school, he served as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and bassist of the school band. He continuously explores the ?paths for self-breakthrough in music while embracing endless possibilities. Performance experience ranges from large gatherings of thousands to street performances, treating life as a vast stage. Now embarking on a brand-new journey, he is hoping to connect with audiences through heartfelt expressions.

BassLIN Zihan

LIN Zihan is a first-year student at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. He joined the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen in October 2025. He once participated in the "Dream of the Red Chamber" series of performances at the Shenzhen Concert Hall as a bass singer.

BassMIAO Zhongqi

MIAO Zhongqi is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Data Science at CUHK-Shenzhen. He previously served as the Vice Head of the University Hip-Hop Club and has been a featured performer in major campus events, including the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala and various livehouse shows. Currently, he serves as the Tenor Part Leader for the Chorus of CUHK-Shenzhen and is a member of the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen. With a focus on musical diversity and individuality, he specialises in Pop and Rap performance. Drawing on his extensive stage experience, he is dedicated to delivering high-quality performances that foster a profound emotional resonance with his audience.

BassZHONG Haonan

ZHONG Haonan is a third-year undergraduate student at CUHK-Shenzhen, majoring in Quantitative Finance in the School of Data Science. He has been fascinated with music since an early age, and is equipped with abundant exposure and hands-on experiences, including but not limited to: Six years of piano study during primary school; Three chorus experiences: Leader of part 4B at Shenzhen Yantian Foreign Language School “Sound of Ocean” Chorus (2011-2017); Leader of Bass at Shenzhen Foreign Language School (SFLS) “Heart Sailing” Chorus (2020-2022); member of the CUHK-Shenzhen Chorus (2023-2024); bass at the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen (2024-present). He coordinated in decoding tracks for the official primary-school Music textbook of Hunan Education Press with the chorus in 2013; been to Latvia to participate in the 8th World Choir Competition with the chorus and returned with a silver prize in 2014; took part inrecording the 30th School Anniversary theme song Good Morning, SFLS in 2020; been to Pingtan, Fujian to attend Nationwide University A Cappella Singing-by-seaside Activity in 2024; attended a series of performance during the 2025 Spring Blossom Music Festival.

Bass & Vocal Percussion | ZENG Pengtao

ZENG Pengtao is a forth-year undergraduate student majoring in Quantitative Finance at the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen. During his time as a baritone and VP in the University's A Cappella Group, he performed in a wide range of university and college events with the Group. He also serves as the drummer of the band "The Limbo". During his time at the university, he performed in various large-scale events both on and off campus with the band. He is interested in a wide range of music genres including pop, rock, R&B, and have rich experience in percussion and stage performances.

Vocal Percussion | ZHANG Shuhan

ZHANG Shuhan is a forth-year undergraduate student majoring in Data Science at the School of Data Science, CUHK-Shenzhen. He began learning Beatbox in high school and joined the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen in his first year.

Vocal Percussion | YANG Jinlin

YANG Jinlin is a fourth-year undergraduate student majoring in Marketing at the School of Management and Economics, CUHK-Shenzhen. Self-taught in beat-boxing for five years, he has turned beat-boxing from a hobby into a professional skill. Currently serving as the vocal percussionist for the A Cappella Group of CUHK-Shenzhen, he has participated in numerous public performances. He also achieved the Top 8 in the 2023 China Beatbox Championship Online Division and qualified for the offline finals auditions. Additionally, as the Head of CUHK-Shenzhen Electronic Music Club, he also has extensive stage performance experience as a DJ, integrating cultural elements to present beatbox solo works with electronic music influences. His notable competition wildcards include?Involution?and?Shadows.

The “Spring Blossoms” Music Festival

The “Spring Blossoms” Music Festival at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is thoughtfully curated by the University Arts Centre, bringing together artistic forces from both China and abroad. The festival features a diverse range of performances, including choir, a cappella, orchestral, chamber music, percussion, and ethnic music. Throughout the festival, there will also be music lectures, academic communication, artistic coaching, and charity performances. The aim of the festival is to integrate existing campus music projects and external music resources, promote cross-disciplinary communication and academic guidance, and to create an open, shared, and global-minded platform for artistic communication. Take music as a bridge to connect the world and inspire the soul.
